'I'm Not A Robot Politician' Says Ruth Cadbury | |||||
Local Labour candidate defends herself after memory lapse on party manifesto filmed
Labour parliamentary candidate Ruth Cadbury has defended herself following the memory lapse captured on film at Tuesday nights hustings in Chiswick where she appeared to forget the main points of the Labour Party's election manifesto. The video taken by The Chiswick Calendar shows the Brentford & Isleworth councillor 'drawing a blank' for a few moments when approached by reporter Nick Raikes with a question about the party's manifesto.
But Ms Cadbury said; "Anyone who knows me knows I am not a robot politician. I guess I’m going to have to get more used to being in front of a camera! “I’m happy to debate our manifesto any time, anywhere. The hustings on Tuesday night went very well and the feedback from members of the public was very positive. "I'm looking forward to speaking with Chiswick Calendar again soon to outline Labour's plan for Brentford & Isleworth” Prior to that Ruth Cadbury had taken part in a two-hour 'hustings' debate with the other election candidates for the constituency. Reporter Nick Raikes said he had at first been taken aback; "It was not a probing question by any means and I would expect a politician not to be foxed by a question like that" He added: "She's been campaigning very long hours, it had been a long day and she had just finished a two-hour debate, so I can understand why she would have been off guard." The event at ChristChurch Turnham Green raised over £1,000 for the Shelter Charity and attracted an attendance of over 150 people. Chiswick Buzz TV has filmed the entire event which you can view in full and is in two parts.
The event was chaired by Paul Goldsmith, economics and politics teacher at Latymer Upper School (who blogs as pjgoldsmith.com). The hustings featured all the political candidates for the Brentford& Isleworth constituency; sitting MP Mary Macleod (Cons); Ruth Cadbury (Labour); Joe Bourke ( Liberal Democrat Party); Daniel Goldsmith ( Green Party), and Richard Hendron (UKIP).
