The borough is marking the 70th anniversary of VE - Victory in Europe - Day on May 8 with a series of wartime style events over the next week.

Ahead of the date, on Saturday, May 2, a free guided walk round Hammersmith will kick off at 11am leaving from Barons Court tube.

The walk will look at areas of the town destroyed by Nazi bombs, as well the role the town played in the Allied victory. The walk will finish in Lyric Square at midday.

The walk is free for HammersmithLondon Privilege Card holders. For more information, visit HammersmithLondon.

On May 8 itself, the Askew Road Library in Shepherd's Bush will be hosting a street party-themed event with the celebrations including refreshments, competitions and a couple of historical talks from guest speakers as well as a surprise guest singer.

VE Day marks the formal acceptance by the Allies of Nazi Germany's unconditional surrender in World War II on May 8, 1945 which brought about the end of the conflict in Europe.
