Matt Damon seeks character advice from Tom Mangold
Damon came to Mangold’s Chiswick home seeking advice from the author on his fictionalised character Edward Wilson based loosely on the late chief of the CIA’s counter intelligence unit James Jesus Angleton about whom Mangold wrote an acclaimed biography. “My friend Paul Greengrass called me up and asked if he could bring Matt Damon around for a chat.” Mangold told ChiswickW4.com “We sat, drank tea and chatted for about three hours. I did subtly point out to him that he bore little if any physical resemblance to each other which he took in good grace!” Whilst he is looking forward to seeing the Oscar tipped film, indeed he receives a credit for his contribution; he remains in deep trouble with his children who understandably found it unforgivable that they were not tipped off about the visit from Hollywood! Entitled Cold Warrior, Mangold’s biography of Angleton also caught the eye of another Hollywood big hitter, Oliver Stone with whom he also spent many hours discussing the infamous agent’s life. The Good Shepherd, a spy thriller directed by Robert De Niro and also starring Angelina Jolie, will be in cinemas from 23rd January. January 7, 2007
